Knee and Joint Pain Treatment

Knee and Joint Pain Treatment

The common conditions we have applied regenerative medicine as the remedy, include joint pain, soft tissue injury, tendon injury, particularly knee pain due to osteoarthritis & ligament tear.

Our doctors are specialized in alternative medicine for knee pain treatment, particularly for those patients not keen for surgery or those suffering from chronic knee pain.

What are the available treatments?

Knee High Molecular Weight (HWA) Hyaluronic acid (HA) gel injection

Hyaluronic acid is similar to a substance that occurs naturally in the joint, and acts as both a lubricant and a shock absorber, helping the joint to work properly. Hyaluronic acid injections, also known as HA injections or gel injections, are used to treat knee pain in people with osteoarthritis of the knee for whom other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Knee Platelets Rich Plasma (PRP) injection

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma which means that the doctor takes blood and uses a machine to concentrate your platelets in your plasma. These platelets have growth factors that can help tissues heal.

Knee Stem Cell injection

In EA CLINIC, we provide Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) and/or Wharton Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cell (WJ-MSC) for knee injection. SVF is a form of stem cell therapy that is made up of stem cell harvested from your own fat cells. SVF is also known as Fat Stem Cell. Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stromal (stem) cells are harvested from umbilical cord tissue and are considered by many regenerative experts to have the most potential for effective cell-based therapy with the added benefit of being far easier and less invasive to retrieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common cause of arthritis in the knee is osteoarthritis. This condition is characterised by the progressive wearing of the cartilage. As the cartilage is worn away, bone on bone is exposed leading to inflammation, pain, and swelling.

PRP injections are a great choice for those looking for minimally invasive recovery from the damaging effects of chronic inflammation and arthritis. Since plasma is gathered from your own body, there is virtually no risk of infection or allergic reaction. Of course, anything can happen but generally autologous (self-to-self) are safe.

Usually, we ask you to be well hydrated. Also, it is important you avoid medications that affect platelets such as aspirin or ibuprofen for at least 10 days prior to the injection. Also, you should avoid these same medications for a few weeks after the last treatment.

Overall, for knee arthritis, we suggest 2-3 injections about 2 weeks apart for the best effect. For tendons, we recommend 1-2 injections about 2 weeks apart. For more severe cases, some may need more sessions, on case to case basis.

In general, we suggest you avoid exercising the joint or tendon for at least a week after the injection. This rest time may vary depending on the structure injected.

The effect of PRP typically lasts for year(s), if there is no further damage on the knees, especially with body weight control.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in bones, joints, and tendons. Injecting hyaluronic acid into knee arthritis improves pain and function, but it’s not as good as PRP. However, recent studies suggest that combining the two might be better than one alone

Recent evidence suggests that PRP is better than cortisone. Also, unlike cortisone, which shows some potential negative effects on cartilage, PRP is not thought to be harmful.

One session of PRP treatment costs between RM 600 to RM 1500 depends on the treatment plan, the cost of special tubes( if needed) and the complexity of the disease.

The cost is around RM 12 000 to RM 22 000, depends on the type of stem cells and protocol of treatment.

However, we recommend our clients to consider our EA CLINIC knee pain injection protocol, for best treatment of their knee pain. Price is negotiable and we assure you that the price is affordable and reasonable.
